Starting your day with a mindful morning routine can set a positive tone for the rest of the day. It can help you focus, reduce stress, and cultivate a sense of peace before the demands of the day take over.

The obvious challenge is making space for this in what’s likely your already very full (and maybe busy!) life. That’s why I’ve come up with simple ideas to get you started with a mindful morning routine. These are no-brainers!

Here are 15 simple and effective ideas for a mindful morning routine that will help you begin your day with intention and clarity.

1. Sit and drink your coffee

There’s something comforting about sipping a warm cup of coffee or tea in the morning. Instead of rushing through your morning, take a few minutes to sit down, savor the taste, and be present in the moment. Use this time to set a positive mindset for the day ahead, focusing on gratitude.

2. Practice Daily Mantras

The quality of your thoughts creates the quality of your life. If you want to have a higher quality life, it starts with how you think about today. to get started thinking more intentionally about your day, create mantras to practice every day. Make a list of about five to 10 and repeat them right when you get up every day. Use the same mantras daily until they lose their impact. Then create a new list and repeat. This way you’re intentionally choosing how to think about your day instead of living from your default brain. You’ll end up feeling more positive and living a more positive life!

3. Journal for 10 minutes in bed

Before you even get out of bed, take out your journal and jot down your thoughts and feelings. This morning practice can serve as a brain dump, allowing you to release any lingering worries or anxieties. Additionally, you can use this time to write down three things you’re grateful for, which can foster a sense of appreciation and contentment.

4. Practice empowering “I am” statements

Create a list of empowering “I am” statements that reflect your values, strengths, and aspirations. Affirmations like “I am capable,” “I am resilient,” or “I am a fun mom” can help boost your confidence and self-belief. Repeating these statements during your morning routine can set a positive tone for the day ahead and help you show up more as the mom you want to be.

5. Stretch your body

Take a few minutes to gently stretch your body after getting out of bed. Simple stretches can help release tension, increase blood flow, and improve your flexibility. Incorporate deep breathing into your stretching routine to connect with your body and calm your mind.

I’m always amazed at how much better I feel when I stretch.

6. Set a daily intention

Before diving into the day’s tasks and the logistics of mom life, set a clear intention for how you want to approach the day. It could be something as simple as “I intend to stay focused and productive” or “I intend to find joy in the little things.” Having a guiding intention can help you stay centered and aligned with living from your best self.

7. Make yourself breakfast

Prepare a nourishing breakfast that fuels your body and mind. Whether it’s a wholesome smoothie, a hearty bowl of oatmeal, or a nutritious omelet, taking the time to eat mindfully can help you start the day on the right foot. Avoid rushing through your meal and instead savor each bite, appreciating the flavors and textures.

8. Coach yourself

Take on the role of your own coach by offering yourself some words of encouragement and motivation. Reflect on yourself, your life, your thoughts, feelings, and actions. A self-coaching practice can boost your self-esteem and prepare you to face any challenges that come your way.

In our full lives, finding moments of silence can be rare but incredibly beneficial. Dedicate 10 minutes to sit in silence, either through meditation or simply by observing your breath. This practice can clear your mind, reduce stress, and help you approach the day with greater clarity and focus.

10. Have snuggle time with your kids or pets

Spend a few minutes cuddling with your kids and/or pets. Physical affection releases oxytocin, the “love hormone,” which promotes bonding and reduces stress. Starting your day with a heartwarming connection can leave you feeling happier and more grounded.

12. Sit outside for 5 minutes

Spending time in nature has been shown to reduce stress and improve overall well-being. You can feel more grounded and connected through this exercise.

13. Wake up 15 minutes early

Give yourself the gift of extra time in the morning by waking up 15 minutes earlier than usual. This small adjustment can make a big difference in your morning routine, allowing you to move at a more relaxed pace and start your day with less rush and stress.

14. Start your morning routine the night before

To ensure a smooth and mindful morning, do some preparation the night before. Lay out your clothes, pack your bag, and plan your breakfast. This proactive approach can help you feel more organized and focused, allowing you to make the most of your morning routine.

15. Practice self love

Practicing self-love sets a positive tone for the rest of your day. You can do this any way that feels like loving yourself to you. One way I suggest is by looking yourself in the mirror and saying “I love you.” It’s a small way to connect with yourself and practice self love every day. If you do this every day for a year, you will change the way you relate to yourself in the very best way.
